Blog

Welcome to my blog. I am convinced that many people live with a big gap in their understanding of what God has done for them. They understand that Jesus died so that their sins can be forgiven and they understand that he died so that they would have a future with him in eternity. But they simply don't understand what Jesus has provided for them so that they can face the harsh realities of life in this broken world with hope and courage. I believe it is not enough to believe in life after death; I believe in real hope of life before death. I believe in real hope of personal growth and change. I believe in real hope of community and institutional change. Why? Because I believe in the transforming power of Jesus Christ. His grace is able to make broken things new again. This is the mission of Paul Tripp Ministries - to connect the transforming power of Jesus Christ to everyday life.

Parenting: It's Never an Interruption

Parenting is all about living by the principle of prepared spontaneity. You don't really know what's going to happen next. You don't really know when you'll have enforce a command, intervene in an argument, confront a wrong, holdout for a better way, remind someone of a truth, call for forgiveness, lead someone to confession, point to Jesus, restore peace, hold someone accountable, explain a wisdom principle, give a hug of love, laugh in the face of adversity, help someone complete a task, mediate an argument, stop with someone and pray, assist someone to see their heart, or talk once again about what it means to live together in a community of love. Realistic Expectations

It's a problem as people face marriage. It's a problem as people think about the workplace. It's a problem as couples anticipate the birth of their first child. It's a problem as we think about our friendships. It's a problem as people think about their life in the church. What is the problem that I'm talking about? It's the problem of unrealistic expectations. Why do we have unrealistic expectations for all of these inescapable dimensions of human life? We have them because we don't take seriously what the Bible has to say about the condition of the world in which we live. Here it is; sin has cast this world into trouble. Continue reading...

Psalm 27: From Your Lips to the Messiah's Ears

My son, Darnay, and I were fortunate enough to get tickets for an NBA playoff game. The local home team, the Philadelphia 76ers, was playing their rival, the Boston Celtics. I had never before and never after experienced the noise of that night. As we entered the arena, the air was already alive with anticipation. People were high-fiving one another before the game started, just because they were excited to be in the building! Continue reading...

Blind to Our Blindness

Do you really know yourself as well as you think you do? I would ask you to consider the critical, progressive warning of Hebrews 3:12-13, paraphrased as, "See to it that none of you has a evil---unbelieving---falling away---hardened heart." It is a picture of what sin does if undetected, unexposed, and unforsaken. The process of heart hardening begins long before that hardness becomes obvious. Continue reading...
